Monday we passed drizzling and got into full on downpour conditions. We went to a model train museum to keep us occupied in the morning. This place was packed floor to ceiling with models of everything from years and years ago. You couldn't touch anything, but each of the train sets really worked and Ethan enjoyed pushing the buttons on them all. They also hand out stools to the kids so that they can really see what's going on.
They even had a small Thomas set which was very exciting...
That afternoon Ethan woke up from his nap completely, and I mean completely miserable. He was crying and crying about his ear so we ended up at the walk-in clinic of the local hospital. Little man had a bad ear infection and was put on amoxicillin. He perked up before we even got any medicine in him and was rambling on and on about all kinds of stuff! It was as though he felt vindicated that he actually had something wrong and we were going to fix it. He was saying that he was going to teach the baby how to walk and how to talk and change diapers. Then he wanted to know what Steve and I were going to teach him...you know, since he has the walking and talking stuff covered. We were cracking up! We had to drive around while we waited for the prescription to be filled and we ended up at Walmart so Ethan could pick out a movie. It was clear we weren't doing anything else that day so movie night seemed appropriate. He picked The Incredibles and really liked it but it hasn't been a favorite since we've been back.
Tuesday was our last day of vacation so back to the Cider Company we went.
We ended our vacation in North Conway with a ride on the scenic railroad. It wasn't very scenic given how cloudy, foggy and rainy the day was, but it was still fun!
We all know how he loves his tickets!
There was a conductor that punched holes in the tickets, but he just had on a blue shirt and baseball hat so he wasn't very impressive. However, shortly before we left, a real life conductor complete with pocket watch and vest with brass buttons came aboard and Ethan was star struck! I couldn't get my camera out fast enough but the look on his face was priceless. He took the boys to the front of our car which was first to watch the steam engine hook up for our trip. I'm not sure who was more excited...
I think this is what they mean by "letting off steam".
We took the long way home via the Kangamangus Highway and even with the crappy weather it was gorgeous. We weren't there at peak foliage, but there was a lot of color and it's such a great drive. Hopefully the weather and overall health will be better next time, but we made the most of our first vacation together!
