This is a freaky picture, but I was documenting the first time that Ethan allowed someone to paint his face.  This was for his field day at school.

Even dinosaur soap dispensers should brush their teeth.

My boys really struggle to stay clean when there's cream cheese involved.

Jacob put Thomas together all by himself!  I think this was his first solo-Duplo attempt which is why it was so photo worthy.

Summertime!!

On June 10th, after a picnic lunch, we busted out the kids pool!

It came with a pool boy....

...and a lifeguard.

The next day, Ethan and I baked bread together.  We used my mom's oatmeal molasses recipe that she's been making forever.  I was really fun for me to do this with him since I have a million memories of baking bread with my mom.  I'm not sure he'll do it again though.  He did not at all care for the smell/taste of the molasses.

My loaves were a bit uneven, but it turned out perfect!

Ethan Graduates Pre-K

Back on June 8th, Ethan graduated from pre-K! This was his last class at The Wonder Years but luckily it wasn't his last day. It was emotional enough! He has made really wonderful friends there (no pun intended) and we've gotten pretty close with some of the parents as well. The school has been amazing for Ethan and his growth in this room in particular has been great. He is such a mature, polite, considerate 5 year old and Miss Julie, Miss Melissa and Miss Kimberly definitely played a big role in his development.

Ethan with Kyle, Cole and Sabrina.  These guys have been great buddies for years.  Cole and Ethan were first together all the way back in the infant room at Textron!  Sabrina is in Ethan's school now and we've been hearing about her quite a lot even though she's not in his class.  It's interesting that he's keeping tabs on her since he's not terribly interested in being friends with girls right now.

I didn't have the best angle for this crew but we have Connor, Ethan, Shane, Kyle, Tommy, Trevor and Vincent.

 

Each class had a mascot and this year these guys were the I-can-Pelicans.  They each got one to take home along with a huge folder of art and writing samples they'd' been working on all year.  It really is cool to see by month how much Ethan's fine motor skills have improved.  We miss the closeness of this community and having so much contact with the kids, parents and teachers! 

Grandma Jan's Birthday

Way back on June 3rd, we celebrated a very special birthday with Grandma Jan! Jamie and I hosted a party at Mattakeese Wharf in Barnstable Harbor and we had a lovely afternoon with our family and a few of her friends!

Phyllis came out of retirement and made a cake for her.  If you haven't had brown sugar "sand" on one of your cakes, you haven't really lived.  You might not think cake needs more sugar, but it does.  Oh, it does.

And...they had crackers.  Super exciting!

The sun did come out for a while but boy was it windy.  We did head over to Millway for a beach walk after the festivities but we didn't last too long.  It was really a lovely way to celebrate such a wonderful woman.  We love you Mom/Grandma!!
