Nemo

So we had a bit of a blizzard this past weekend. If you've been anywhere near a television for the last week you know about it! They have started naming winter storms as they do hurricanes and tropical storms in the summer so this blockbuster was named...wait for it...Nemo.  They canceled school on Friday by Thursday afternoon and were predicting 2+ feet of snow for our area!  Luckily it held off until the afternoon before it really got started.  Steve and I both got to go to boot camp and the boys and I ran over to the library for books and movies to keep us (ok, them) entertained.  It snowed and snowed and snowed from Friday afternoon right until Saturday afternoon.  It was a very exciting Saturday morning in our house!  With so much wind the snow had drifted all kinds of ways so we weren't sure what to expect when we opened our front door...

You can tell by looking at the gates by the driveway just how deep it really was in some places!

It was late morning before we made our way out.  It was still really windy and Jacob was having a tough time staying up (and happy).

Ethan on the other hand was our snow drift explorer!  He was so excited to be out there trucking around the house.

This was probably our biggest one.  It took him a while to make his way through this one.  Because the snow was so fluffy, he just sunk into it!

Jacob insisted on being carried and then pulled.  He didn't seem too psyched to be out there but didn't want to come in and threw a tantrum when I carried him inside for lunch.

After 2+ hours, Steve had us all cleaned up!

We all headed back out after nap for some more adventure.  We were hoping to sled in the driveway again but the snow was so dry the sleds didn't slide that well.  We've had some melting today so there should be some ice out there tomorrow to make things more interesting.  They canceled school again tomorrow so we'll get to check it out!

The boys ended up digging this out and making it into a space ship with controls and everything.

You can see that the street is pretty much down to black top.  They did an amazing job keeping up with the storm in our town.  We were very impressed.

And then of course Jacob had to have a turn being king.

And then Ethan climbed back up and Jacob was saying "No Efan!  I'm the king!".

 

We were very fortunate to have power through the whole storm and no trees down anywhere around us.  My family on the Cape was not so lucky.  They were all without power all weekend but stayed warm through fire and generators.  I think they're all back to normal now, but it sounds like there's a lot of damage down there.  I'm glad that they are all safe and sound tonight!
